Here’s the trailer for Minecraft 1.2. There’s a new jungle biom, children and wolf cubs. Plus much more, I’m sure.
I’ve been constructing a replica of the southwest edge of Hoboken in Minecraft creative mode to get a better idea of the spacial relationships, traffic patterns and building footprints of an area that is under consideration for redevelopment. As of February, 2012 I serve as 3rd alternate member of the Hoboken Zoning Board of Adjustments.
The southwestern edge of Hoboken contains many small buildings that had been used throughout the 19th and 20th century for manufacturing. The city is now looking to redevelop the area in light of the fact that much of the industrial uses have been abandoned as Hoboken has moved to a commuter city for people working in Manhattan. My studio is within the redevelopment zone, although the building has not been designated as needing redevelopment.
In early 2012 the City of Hoboken Planning Board released the Southwest Area Redevelopment Study to the public. It includes a broad overview of the area and details about properties under consideration.
To better understand the implications of the changes I started an image set on Flickr and will be posting new pictures, drawings and Minecraft screen grabs there. I post general updates and links to news stories on Twitter at #HobokenSW.
